Dear Learning Leader: You’re Not Developing Software, You’re Developing People

To become a core contributor to business success L&D first must have well-defined processes supported by measurable performance targets and indicators. L&D must no longer consider itself a support function, and instead consider itself central to the company’s business strategy. Developing programs to build capabilities across a diverse workforce means L&D must contribute to the company’s growth by:

  • Encouraging innovation, creativity and growth mindsets

  • Reinforcing the company’s mission, vision, and values and being both an advocate and steward of the company culture

  • Identifying the capabilities that meet the company’s needs and utilizing scalable learning strategies to build those capabilities

  • Delivering evidence to the business that the workforce does indeed have the capabilities
